My teaching activities aim to guide undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fundamental theoretical concepts and challenges introduced by digital society, particularly in the areas of new platform business models, digital participation, sound design and AI-empowered cultural practices.
The emergence of new platform business models has impacted the way organizations operate and conceive themselves. Through an historical overview of the evolution of the Web, these lectures show how cultural institutions have used and designed their own platforms to extend the access to their collections, create new digital narratives, involve audiences in the creation of content and, ultimately, reimagine their shape.
This cycle of lectures explores the emerging role of sound in shaping new cultural and creative practices from two main perspectives: as an element to be preserved and collected (Sound Heritage), and as a means to design personalized, sensorial and emotional experiences (Sound Design). In both dimensions, sound acts as a transformative force that challenges previous assumptions and introduces new vocabularies, spaces and technologies.
With these lectures, I reflect on the evolution in the relationship with audiences fostered by the digital revolution: from the introduction of a new public - online users - to participatory approaches to media and communication. Drawing upon national and international projects, I reflect on the role of digital platforms not only as spaces to find new audiences, but also to experiment with new narratives, types of memories, and forms of cultural participation.
The rapid acceleration in the field of Artificial Intelligence is prompting digital humanities scholars, cultural practitioners and educators to experiment with a range of machine learning techniques, including Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Automatic Speech Recognition, Linked Open Data. These lectures introduce to the new challenging questions on the role of non-human agents in performing creative tasks and in the production of cultural values, reflecting on the new expertise, skills, methodologies and ethical approaches to drive and lead the new AI-empowered practices in the organizations.
Sound culture: new challenges for museums in the post-digital age
Participatory Digital Curation (italian)
Drawing upon my practice-based research, I curate workshops to guide students and cultural professionals in the design of new practices of digital storytelling, data visualization, digital curation and community engagement.
The development of digital collections and online exhibitions is a key area of museum practice. In my workshops I guide participants to experiment with a range of digital tools that can support their digital curation journey.
I design workshops aimed to familiarize with the practice of sound design in both physical and online spaces. In these sessions I explore a range of experimental sonic practices: sound exhibitions and installations, sound walks and audio tours, sound archives, sound maps, and museum playlists inspired by the collections.
Today educators can use a variety of digital tools to support the learning experience, as well as the collaborative creation of content. In this workshop I guide participants in the design of educational projects which engage students in the development of a digital narrative, taking into account the educational needs and relationships with technology of different age groups.
